Terms of service

Last updated November 3, 2026

These terms are the rules for using yap, a social app for short voice clips, and this website. By creating an account or using yap, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use yap. How we handle your data is covered in our privacy policy.

Who can use yap

You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough in your country to agree to these terms. You can't use yap if you've been removed from it before, or if the law forbids it.

Your account

You sign in with Apple, Google or an email code. Give us accurate details, keep your sign-in safe, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. You're responsible for what happens under it. You can delete your account at any time from Edit profile in the app.

What you post

You own your yaps, comments and profile. By posting them, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, play, copy and show them as needed to run yap, to the audience you chose (public, or followers only). The license ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from short-lived copies in backups.

You're responsible for what you post. Only post things you have the right to share, and only record people who know they're being recorded and are fine with it.

What's not allowed

  • Harassing, threatening or bullying people, or hateful content aimed at people for who they are.
  • Sexual content involving minors, or any sexual content you post without everyone's consent. Violent or graphic content meant to shock or glorify harm.
  • Pretending to be someone else, or misleading people about who you are.
  • Sharing other people's private information, or recording them without their knowledge.
  • Spam, scams, and anything that breaks the law or other people's rights, including copyright.
  • Trying to break, overload or get around yap's limits, such as scraping, automated posting, or probing for weaknesses. Yaps have a length limit and accounts have posting limits, which are there to keep yap running for everyone.
  • Using yap to train machine learning models, or reselling or republishing what others post.

Reports, blocking and enforcement

You can block people and report yaps, comments and profiles in the app. We review reports and may remove content, limit features, or suspend or end accounts that break these terms, with or without notice when we think it's needed to keep people safe. If we end your account and you think we got it wrong, email us and we'll take another look.

Our service

yap is provided free of charge. We may change it, add or remove features, or stop it altogether. We'll try to give notice of big changes, but we can't promise the service will always be available or free of errors. The yap name, logo and the app itself belong to us. You may not copy or reuse them except as these terms allow.

No warranties

yap is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't control what people post and aren't responsible for it, though we work to remove content that breaks these terms.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of yap. Our total liability to you for anything connected to yap is limited to the amount you've paid us to use it, which is nothing, because yap is free. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Disputes and governing law

If you have a problem, email us first and we'll try to sort it out. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where we are based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute that can't be settled informally will be heard in the courts there. If you're a consumer, you also keep any rights you have under the laws of your own country that can't be waived.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we'll update the date at the top and tell you in the app or by email. If you keep using yap after a change, you accept the new terms.
