Privacy policy

Last updated November 1, 2026

yap is a social app for short voice clips. This policy covers the yap iPhone app and this website: what we collect, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address, username, display name, and anything you add to your profile, such as a bio, photo, banner or color.
  • Sign-in details: if you continue with Apple or Google, the account identifier they give us. Apple or Google may also share your name, and Google your profile picture, to fill in your profile.
  • What you post: your yaps (audio and captions), hashtags, comments and reactions.
  • Your activity on yap: who you follow, who you block, your follow requests, your notification settings, and any reports you send us.
  • Device details: a push notification token, if you allow notifications.
  • Connection details: your IP address, which is used to limit abuse and to deliver the service.

Your microphone

yap uses your microphone only while you record. A clip leaves your phone only when you post it.

How we use it

We use this information to run yap: to sign you in, show your yaps to the right people, send notifications, keep the service safe, and review reports.

We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and the app has no third-party advertising or analytics tools. This website doesn't use cookies or analytics.

Who can see what you post

  • Public yaps can be found and played by anyone on yap, including on Explore and in search.
  • Followers-only yaps can be played by the people who follow you.
  • Comments can be seen by anyone who can see the yap.
  • Your profile (name, username, photo, bio, color and follower counts) can be seen by other people on yap. People you block can't see it.

Who handles your data for us

We use these providers to run yap, and they handle data only as needed to do that:

  • Google Cloud: hosts our servers and database.
  • Cloudflare: stores audio and images, carries traffic to our servers, and hosts this website.
  • Resend: sends sign-in codes by email.
  • Apple: Sign in with Apple and push notifications.
  • Google: Continue with Google.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or if it's needed to protect people's safety. Our data is stored in the United States.

Deleting your data

You can delete a yap whenever you like. To delete your whole account, go to Edit profile in the app and choose Delete account. That removes your account, yaps, comments, reactions, follows and media, and revokes yap's access to your Apple sign-in if you used it.

Two things stay after an account is deleted: reports other people filed about you or your posts, so moderators can still review them, and hashtags, which are shared and not tied to you. Copies in backups can also last for a limited time.

Your choices

You can edit your profile in the app, turn notifications on or off in Notification settings, and turn off microphone access in iOS Settings. To ask for a copy of your data, or for anything else about your data, email us. You may have further rights depending on where you live.

Children

yap isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
